This is a really well done deck tech, I'm glad the algo sent me this way! Like some others have been saying, I really appreciate how you took the time to point out some of the decks weaknesses as well as its strengths. As someone that usually likes building his own decks, when I do follow someone elses build I feel like sometimes people can have ownership bias and tend to only tell you about all their best games/plays with their list but won't highlight the weak points, and then when someone (like me) comes along to copy it or use it as a baseline it can be a little harder to pin down whats going wrong. 10/10 video in my book!

I will never be able to have fun in a casual game unless i have a efficient mana base otherwise it is just too random for me and if i wanted to have uncertainty in my games i would play a chaos deck

My first ever trip to a card store one of my friends found me a constant mists in a common bin for 20 cents. That and spore frog were the pet cards of my first ever deck, but they've just been doing nothing since I dismantled it. (deck was not fun, i had no idea what i was doing) You've inspired me to build a Questing Beast fog deck to bring out their potential! Thank you Mr. Snail

A friend of mine also has a Xyris deck and it's quite difficult to deal with it because it draws so many cards and gets so many snakes is a pain in the neck. By the way, Sword of War and Peace, which is among the cheapest "swords of A and B", works amazingly with Xyris. For me, a powerful strategy allows for many card slots dedicated to interaction while being consistently powerful and that is just what you're describing here.

Another consequence of these artificially inflated numbers is that, every now and then, it boosts a card that just straight up doesn't work in the deck. For example, 19% of The Beast, Deathless Prince decks currently run Sundial of the Infinite, an effect that immediately ends The Beast's effect and the other threaten effects he encourages you to run. Somebody put it in their deck, not knowing the difference between "at the beginning of the next end step" and "until end of turn". Then that inspires others to use this cool tech that doesn't actually work.

I play combo decks because I don't like sitting out on the sidelines for an hour after someone kills me right before a boardwipe. This way, I don't make other people sit on the sidelines doing nothing. I prefer to kill all my opponents at the same time.

For anyone wanting to build this deck, you might want to check out sergeant John Benton first. He has the same passive of "you and your opponent draw cards equal to damage this creature dealt". He is a selesnya commander instead of temur and he doesn't have flying but he has trample and haste. Also he doesn't create tokens when opponents draw but he makes up for it by costing 3 instead of 5 mana. So you can go for the same gameplan but faster. With turn one ramp, you can get him out turn 2 and start drawing. Also white has a lot of interesting multi use spells that both buff amd protect a creature. Also you can use some board wipes like promise loyalty if an opponent build to much of a board state with the cards you gave them.

If I could add a single non-budget card it would be Grim Hireling, card is just straight up a double Malcolm. Beyond that, mostly just updates to the draw and interaction of the deck.

That's why I supplement EDHRec with curated scryfall searches at which I've become quite adept and going to discord communities so I can learn more about how the deck generally functions. Going to discord is more for my higher powered decks and less so necessary for anything I want to be low-mid power. And my decklists are kept unlisted on Moxfield for the most part. If there's one I'm particularly proud of, I'll let it go public but I don't actually contribute to the data.

  • @koalabro6118

These videos are the only thing that have me even considering getting back into EDH. My (only) (semi) local store, for some god forsaken reason, will lump fresh-buyer-practically-a-newbie players into pods with the kind of people who run Ad Nauseam turn three combos and guys who are cheating out Craterhoof Behemoth on turn 4. The store charges you 2 dollars per "pod", and then every time you take out a player in your pod you get a dollar in store credit, so of course these pros and whales are treating it like a job because "if you beat the other three players you technically make money" and will mercilessly stomp everyone, including a 16 year old kid with anxiety running a freshly opened, not even sleeved Coven deck, a guy in a wheelchair trying to do janky multi-card combos without any tutors, myself, who didn't have the kind of money to spend 15 to 30 dollars on a single card and are running tap lands like Thornwood Falls and game plans along the lines of "do your best with what you have and maybe try to get one of the others before the pro(s) at the table crush(es) you like the bug you are," and everyone else between. I brought up my concerns and the fact that I and others just can't compete with these other folks, and I was told that we should buy some cards to make our decks stronger. Awesome idea. I'm sure it works great for the Comp-Sci majors that make +70k a year, but it would be difficult for me to afford right now and was literally impossible for me back when I was actually playing. I think I'll keep watching you for the fascinating mathematical breakdown, but I should probably just stay away from MTG for the foreseeable future.

I have a very nice deck for Yarok. I utilize the graveyard since most of the creatures enter the battlefield to mill. Instead of using Reanimate instants or sorceries, I use ETB cards like Animate Dead and Necromancy. With those changes, my game plan has gained more consistency. They key part is that I also don't mind if my graveyard is exiled because my deck, at its core, is still an ETB deck, not a graveyard deck.
